SPECIES
Species, is the result
of a scissors and Prit obsession I developed in the late 80's. They are all comprised
of various parts of actual creatures, some familiar, some not so. I had some wild
notion that maybe they could be greetings cards with some revenue going to the
World Wildlife Fund, an attempt to impress upon people the value of the bio diversity
found in the world. I don't think people fully appreciate the knock on effect
of extinction. I used to scour charity shops for collections of wildlife magazines
and pick up interesting pictures from various sources and then, usually in the
dead of night, spend hours and hours flicking through slashed and shredded pages
looking for the right eyes, a pair of horns or a matching pair of wax flappers
and arranging them in various orders searching for the perfect aesthetic. It takes
a lot of patience but I have that in abundance. People suggested I give them names
and invent descriptions of their habitats etc.... but that's just bollocks.
